American Motorcyclist Association

The AMA is the national organization that sanctions amateur, semi-pro and youth motorcycle and ATV events throughout the country. For legal reasons, you MUST be a member of the AMA to participate in an AMA-sanctioned event. Applications are available for you to sign-up at any AMA-sanctioned event. Membership is $39.00 per year and is good for 12 months. If signing up at the track, BE SURE to retain your membership receipt until you receive your plastic membership card. Your membership includes a subscription to American Motorcyclist magazine, which contains a nationwide events schedule along with many articles on different aspects of motorcycling. You may also join the AMA by calling 1-800-AMA-JOIN, however, if you do not physically have your card or your receipt with you when you go to a race track to compete, you will be REQUIRED to sign up for another 12 months of AMA. You can use a major credit card at some events or over the phone. AMA cards take about 2 to 6 weeks to arrive depending on the time of year.

AMA District 23

The AMA rule book also requires that all competitors be a member of the District in which they live. If you are a resident of Minnesota, you must obtain a District 23 card. The card is available at all District 23 sanctioned events. The fee is $40.00 by mail or $50.00 at an event, per calendar year, for the ability to ride any event and any class. A one type of event, one class card is available for $25.00 by mail or $35.00 at an event. If you choose this option, you can always upgrade to a full membership during the season for $15.00 by mail or at an event. Trail ride only cards are available for $10.00. One day passes are also available for $10.00.Full membership also includes a subscription to Cycle USA, which has information of local interest. If you do not have a valid District card, you WILL be required to sign up and pay for one before you can compete.
